“We had the cattle in an area about 200 meters from our house, near the road. From Friday night to Saturday, wolves attacked, leaving ten sheep dead—some of which were pregnant—and 12 injured. The injured sheep, due to the severity, are going to die. The veterinarian is providing treatments, but the wounds are deep,” explained livestock producer Patrícia Antão.
The owner stated, “The place where the flock was located was not an isolated area, and when the attack was noticed, there were dead animals and others severely injured.”
“We cannot understand the manner of this attack, but given the damage, it should have been more than one wolf,” she indicated.
The herd owner assured that the wolf attack was reported to the technicians at the Institute of Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), noting damages exceeding 2,500 euros.
“The sheep were pregnant; we had to pay for a machine to bury them since there was no public entity to do so,” Patrícia Antão said.
On September 5, a shepherd from Fonte Ladrão, also in the municipality of Miranda do Douro, Bragança district, complained of a wolf attack that killed 12 sheep within his farm.
According to the livestock producer, the attack occurred during the night and early morning, leaving damage greater than 2,500 euros.
This case was also reported to the ICNF.
