A 44-year-old man was arrested in Lumiar, Lisbon, on suspicion of domestic violence, as announced by the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement released on Monday, September 15, to Notícias ao Minuto.
According to the PSP, in the early hours of September 10, officers stopped a vehicle driving irregularly. A woman who had just been assaulted exited the vehicle.
The driver fled the scene, but the officers managed to record the car’s license plate.
Following several inquiries, police discovered that the victim had previously filed a domestic violence complaint against the alleged aggressor.
Later that morning, the woman alerted authorities that the suspect was outside her home, threatening her and attempting to force entry.
The police promptly arrived and confronted the man, who exhibited “aggressive behavior, escalating to violence against the police, which resulted in his being taken to the station.”
At the station, following an inquiry with the victim, the suspect was arrested for domestic violence.
Presented in court for initial judicial interrogation the day after his arrest, he was remanded in custody.
