A 50-year-old woman was arrested on April 2 in the Benfica parish of Lisbon on suspicion of committing domestic violence against her 15-year-old daughter.
The Public Security Police (PSP) reported that the alert was raised by witnesses who found the visibly shaken young woman on a public street, showing signs of having been assaulted.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities observed the teenager had several abrasions, which resulted from “violent assaults” allegedly inflicted by her mother.
When confronted with the allegations, the woman, who maintained a “hostile demeanor” throughout, admitted to assaulting her daughter, explaining that the teenager “had not fulfilled her responsibilities with certain household chores.”
As a result, the suspect was detained and charged with the crime of domestic violence. The minor received on-site assistance from emergency services before being placed in the care of her father.
In her initial judicial hearing, the woman was ordered to make weekly appearances at the police station closest to her residence.
