Woman chooses not to pay fine and is arrested by PSP for theft in pharmacy

A 39-year-old woman was arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Thursday in Marinha Grande due to an outstanding “arrest warrant” issued by the Judicial Court of the District of Leiria – Local Criminal Court of Leiria, “for the payment of a fine or serving a prison sentence for a theft crime.”

In May 2022, at a pharmacy in Leiria, the detainee appropriated several cosmetic products. She removed the products from their packaging and placed them in a bag she was carrying, causing a property loss valued at 176 euros, according to a PSP statement sent to the press.

The statement further explains, “by a judicial decision finalized on November 28, 2024, the detainee was sentenced to serve 133 days in a subsidiary prison sentence or, alternatively, to pay a fine of 1,100 euros.”

As the individual did not choose to pay the fine, she was taken to Tires Prison to serve the mentioned sentence.
