The sub-regional commander of Civil Protection in the Terras de Trás-os-Montes, Noel Afonso, confirmed that a 67-year-old woman died at the scene of the accident. The death was declared by the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER). Her husband, aged between 70 and 75 years, who was also in the car, sustained minor injuries.
The vehicle was traveling in the Mirandela-Vila Real direction when it went off the road at approximately 14:30.
According to GNR, the A4 highway is closed in both directions, and traffic is being redirected via National Road 15.
In addition to firefighters and GNR, an INEM helicopter from Macedo de Cavaleiros was present at the scene by 16:30.
