A car accident in the Calheta municipality of Madeira early this afternoon resulted in the death of a woman and the hospitalization of another, according to a fire department official.
In a statement, Jacinto Serrão, commander of the Calheta Volunteer Firefighters, reported that the alert for the accident at Lombo do Salão was received at around 2:40 PM.
The vehicle, carrying two women in their 70s, collided with the wall of a residence, resulting in one fatality at the scene. The other passenger was transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal.
