Woman hospitalized after fracturing her legs in a fall in Berlengas

A 63-year-old woman was hospitalized on Sunday after allegedly falling on Berlenga Island, located in Peniche, in the district of Leiria.

The alert was issued at 3:50 PM, with rescue operations conducted by the crew of the Peniche Lifeboat Station. The woman sustained fractures in her lower limbs after reportedly falling near the Fort of São João Batista, according to a statement from the National Maritime Authority.

In addition to lifeboat station personnel, members of the Peniche Volunteer Firefighters also participated in the operation.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that the victim had fractures in her lower limbs and was attended to by firefighters,” the AMN statement details, noting that the woman was taken to the Port of Peniche and subsequently transported to a hospital by the firefighters.

The Maritime Police of Peniche, contacted by Notícias ao Minuto, confirmed that the fractures occurred in both legs.

The Local Command of the Peniche Maritime Police has taken charge of the incident.
