A 37-year-old man was arrested on Monday, November 10, in Sintra on suspicion of raping a 28-year-old neighbor, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced in a statement. The crime occurred on November 8 and was reported to the authorities by the victim herself.
Investigators revealed that the suspect and victim maintained a “friendship in a neighborhood context,” shared mutual friends, and had families with “a relationship of trust” between them.
On the day of the crime, the suspect, who was intoxicated and under the influence of “toxic substances,” took advantage of the victim’s visit to the humanitarian association’s facilities where he volunteers to assault her. The attack required the victim to seek “hospital care.”
Following several “investigative measures,” including at the crime scene, the PJ gathered “material evidence,” identified, and located the suspect.
The man, who was previously at an unknown location, will now face a preliminary judicial hearing to determine appropriate coercive measures.
