Another woman has died as a victim of domestic violence on Thursday, November 7, in Portugal. The crime took place in a square in the city of Porto, right in front of a playground and near a school, in broad daylight, witnessed by passersby.
The woman, identified as Jusett, was planning to start anew, according to reports. She had separated from her partner, the father of her two children, and was due to start working at a restaurant in Invicta on the very day she was fatally stabbed twice in the chest and abdomen by the man she once loved.
The suspect, a 39-year-old fisherman from Figueira da Foz, originally from São Tomé as was the victim, reportedly could not accept the separation and had threatened to kill her if she did not return to him. He fulfilled this threat in the early hours of the morning at Praça da Corujeira.
Subsequently, witnesses reported that he drank from a white bottle marked with a skull, presumably bleach, as confirmed later by the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement released the same day.
Afterward, he walked approximately two kilometers to the Pego Negro viaduct near the Areias roundabout and jumped off. Despite this, he survived and was taken in critical condition to São João Hospital, the same hospital where the victim had been transported but succumbed due to the severe injuries inflicted by the perpetrator, with whom she had moved to Portugal in 2021.
It is noteworthy that in the first half of this year alone, 13 people have died in Portugal due to domestic violence, 11 of whom were women. These figures were released by the Domestic Violence Portal, overseen by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), which recently published the data for April to June.
