A 42-year-old woman was stabbed by her ex-husband, aged 55, in Lousada, Porto district, and is in serious condition, having been transported to Padre Américo Hospital in Penafiel.
The woman was attended by the Lousada Volunteer Firefighters, who confirmed the information. A medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle from Vale do Sousa was also reportedly at the scene.
The Porto command of the National Republican Guard (GNR) also confirmed the incident, stating they were informed of the situation around 7:30 AM this Saturday, noting it occurred in public and is being treated as an attempted murder.
The suspect has been arrested “in the vicinity” of where the crime occurred, “near his residence,” as reported by the GNR in Porto.
The case is under the jurisdiction of the GNR, contrary to prior reports that it was being handled by the Judicial Police (PJ).
A report indicates the victim was ambushed by her former partner, who stabbed her more than ten times in the chest, back, abdomen, and legs with a knife.
