A 54-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday, October 7, outside the scene of the crime, on suspicion of setting fire on August 18 to a neighbor’s house located in the parish of Lamaçães, Braga.
In a statement, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) disclosed that the incident stemmed from a “poor neighborhood” context. According to the inspectors, after confronting a resident of the adjacent apartment, the suspect allegedly used an “accelerant liquid, pouring it on the neighbor’s door, igniting it with a direct flame, and then returned to her residence.”
Inside the affected apartment, several people were present and, upon discovering the flames at the door, attempted to extinguish them using “objects and water.”
Despite the “difficulty,” they successfully put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to the mentioned unit and the rest of the building, which houses, according to the PJ, “dozens of people.”
The suspect, who already has a “vast criminal record,” and is recognized by authorities as the perpetrator of “offenses of different natures,” will now be presented to the judicial authority for a preliminary hearing and imposition of coercive measures.
