On Thursday, André Ventura, the leader of the Chega party, was confronted with another protest in Braga by members of the Roma community. Approximately 20 individuals accused Ventura and his party of being “fascists and racists,” while also spitting as a sign of protest.
These protesters had already gathered near the Arco da Porta Nova in the heart of Braga before Ventura’s arrival. They engaged in verbal exchanges with party officials and supporters present at the starting point of the planned rally set for late morning.
Waving a Roma community flag along with another representing anti-Nazi movements, the protestors shouted accusations of racism and fascism.
The situation reached its peak of tension when André Ventura arrived, and individuals spat towards him from a distance, making contact.
