A 30-year-old man died by electrocution while working on the North Line, confirmed Hugo Gonçalves, the commander of the Pombal Volunteer Firefighters.
“The death was confirmed on site by the Leiria Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER),” Gonçalves told Lusa.
The Leiria Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command reported that the incident happened at 01:35 AM in Albergaria dos Doze, Pombal municipality, within the Leiria district.
Six operatives and three vehicles were present at the scene.
Infraestruturas de Portugal informed Lusa that the victim was an employee of a service provider, describing him as “a victim of an accident that occurred this morning during work on the North Line, near the Albergaria tunnel in Pombal municipality.”
“IP is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation to determine the causes of this tragic accident,” the company added in a written statement.
