A strike was considered on May 30 by workers if the remaining 20% of April’s salary, May’s salary, and meal allowance were not paid by today.
At the June 6 meeting, workers of the owner of Visão, among other publications, approved “by a wide majority” the call for an indefinite strike.
The meeting was organized by union delegates of Visão, with 59 participants and the indefinite strike was approved by 47. Trust in News employs about 90 workers.
“The workers of Trust in News approved the call for an indefinite strike, starting on June 20, as they believe this is the best way to fight for overdue salaries and allowances, to preserve their professional dignity, and to draw attention once again to a situation that, for the past year and a half, has threatened the survival of more than a dozen and a half of Portuguese press titles,” the statement read.
Founded in 2017, Trust in News owns 16 media outlets, both in print and digital platforms.
