In July, the total number of ‘lay-off’ situations with compensatory pay, under the normal provision as outlined in the Labor Code, amounted to 3,981, as detailed in the summary released today by the Strategy and Planning Office (GEP) of the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security.

Compared to the same period last year, there was a decrease of 3,190 processed benefits, equivalent to a decline of 44.5%.

On a month-to-month basis, there was an increase of 280 processed benefits, reflecting a 7.6% rise compared to the 3,701 workers in this situation recorded in June, when it had reached its lowest level since August 2023.

According to the GEP, the regime of reduced working hours covered 2,606 people, a decrease of 37% compared to July 2024 (down by 1,533 benefits), but an increase of 11% (up by 259 benefits) from the previous month.

In July, lay-off benefits were processed for 245 employers, a decrease of 149 compared to the same period last year, but an increase of eight entities compared to June.

The lay-off involves the temporary reduction of normal working periods or suspension of work contracts initiated by companies due to market, structural, or technological reasons, or disasters or other occurrences that have severely impacted the company’s regular activities.
