Workers from Sumol+Compal in Pombal are set to strike from midnight on May 14 until 8 a.m. on May 16, according to the pre-strike notice issued by the Sindicato dos Trabalhadores da Agricultura e das Indústrias da Alimentação, Bebidas e Tabacos de Portugal (Sintab).
The employees are demanding salary increases, recognition of professional categories, and the negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement.
Between April 9 and 11, these workers had previously gone on strike, completely halting production, as stated at the time by Tiago Oliveira, the Secretary-General of CGTP.
On Wednesday, workers from Sumol+Compal’s Almeirim unit also staged a strike, calling for salary increases, the resumption of collective bargaining, and a reduction in the weekly work schedule to 35 hours.
