Works ‘close’ Cascais Line stations over the next 2 weekends

A section of the Cascais Line will be closed over the next two weekends due to security and efficiency enhancement work on the rail infrastructure.

According to an announcement from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), “to ensure conditions for construction work at the S. Pedro do Estoril bridge, changes to train circulation will be necessary between the S. Pedro do Estoril and Cascais section.”

The IP explains that this initiative is “part of the Line and Catenary Modernization project that IP is developing, aimed at providing the Cascais Line with higher levels of efficiency and security, significantly enhancing the quality of public rail transport services and promoting increased demand among the populations in the Lisbon Metropolitan area it serves.”

The complexity and duration of these works are “incompatible” with railway operations, necessitating “the closure of this section over two consecutive weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), when there is less demand, to minimize the impact on passenger mobility.”

Thus, the disruptions are as follows:

  • September 20 and 21 → Upward track closure – Lisbon / Cascais direction;
  • September 27 and 28 → Downward track closure – Cascais / Lisbon direction.

IP notes that this interruption overlaps with the ongoing closure between the Oeiras and Cascais section. For more detailed information on these periods, visit the CP website.
