Year-on-year inflation in Germany slows to 2.2% in March

In newly released data, Germany’s inflation rate increased by 0.3% in March compared to February.

The core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy, is estimated to have been 2.5% in March, down from 2.7% in February.

Service prices rose at a rate above average in March, increasing 3.4% year-on-year, slightly below the 3.8% recorded in February.

Food prices rose slightly above the average, with a 2.9% increase compared to February’s 2.4%.

Conversely, energy prices fell 2.8% year-on-year in March, after a 1.6% decrease in the previous month.

The harmonized consumer price index (HICP) for Germany, calculated according to EU criteria, rose 2.3% in March compared to the same month in 2024 and increased by 0.4% from the previous month.

Final inflation results for Germany in March are set to be published on April 11.
