Currently under a yellow warning, the districts of Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Guarda, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Viseu will remain on alert until the end of Tuesday.
In Braga, Porto, and Viana do Castelo, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) warns of high maximum temperatures, “especially in the interior of the district.”
The district of Coimbra will be under a yellow warning for hot weather from 9:00 AM on Monday to 5:00 PM the following day, initially due to the “persistence of high maximum temperatures in the interior,” expanding to the entire district on Tuesday.
Aveiro, Lisbon, and Leiria will also be on alert from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
The yellow warning is issued when there is a risk for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) extended until midnight on Tuesday the yellow warning for hot weather in 14 districts of mainland Portugal, ending today only in Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisbon.

The IPMA forecasts hot weather with values above the climatic norm for this time of year for the coming days on the mainland.
This temperature increase is due to, according to the IPMA, “the intensification of a high-pressure system located over the Azores and the establishment of a ridge associated with this system that will extend to the Bay of Biscay, promoting the transport of a continental air mass (hot and dry) over the Iberian Peninsula.”
The maximum temperature is expected to reach values above 30 degrees Celsius across most of the mainland territory, possibly approaching 40 degrees in some areas, namely in Alentejo, the Tagus Valley, and the Douro Valley.
Only some locations on the western coastal strip may record values below 30 degrees due to the sea breeze, which will be at times moderate, especially during the afternoons.
The minimum temperature will also record high values, not dropping below 20 degrees in some regions, particularly in the south, Tagus Valley, and Beira Baixa.
