Young and elderly rescued on Berlenga. Older person fell into the boat

Emergency crews from the Peniche Lifeboat Station conducted two medical rescues on Sunday on the island of Berlenga, Peniche municipality.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) stated in a communication that one rescue occurred during the early hours, while another took place later that morning.

A 21-year-old man experiencing severe abdominal pain and a man in his 70s who fell while boarding a tour boat were rescued.

“Following alerts from Coimbra’s Urgent Patient Guidance Center (CODU), lifeboat crew members from Peniche and personnel from the Peniche Volunteer Firefighters were immediately activated,” the statement said.

Upon arrival, the firefighters assisted the victims, and the lifeboat crew transported them to the port of Peniche.

“The young man left the scene on his own, while the older man, who reportedly had a shoulder blade fracture, was taken to a hospital,” the AMN added.

The Local Command of the Peniche Maritime Police documented the incidents.
