The minor was “physically well”, so there was no need to “provide medical assistance to the victim”, who ended up leaving the beach “by his own means”.
A14-year-oldkitesurferof Canadian nationality, who was in difficulty in the water, was rescued on Thursday afternoon at Rodanho beach, in the municipality of Viana do Castelo.
The rescue took place following “an alert received at 3.30pm” by “a lifeguard”, and “a water scooter from the Viana do Castelo Life Saving Station” was called to the scene, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) said in a statement.
“On arrival at the scene, it was found that the kitesurfer’s equipment had been damaged and he was unable to return to shore, and the lifeboat crew rescued him and transported him to the beach,” the statement added.
The minor was “physically fine”, so it wasn’t necessary to “provide medical assistance to the victim”, who ended up leaving the beach “by his own means”.
The Local Command of the Viana do Castelo Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
