A 22-year-old man was apprehended at a restaurant in Portimão late Tuesday night, under suspicion of having murdered his mother in Germany.
“Late last night, the Portimão precinct was informed of an individual at a dining establishment in that city who was wanted by the judiciary. Police resources were deployed for a more detailed investigation of the reported situation,” stated the Public Security Police (PSP) in a communication issued to newsrooms on Wednesday.
The individual was located outside the restaurant and, “when he became aware of the police presence, attempted to flee,” but was intercepted and subdued by the officers on site.
The young man is suspected of having killed his mother on March 27, for which a European Arrest Warrant was issued by the German authorities.
On Wednesday, the subject was brought before the Évora Court of Appeal, where it was decided that he would await extradition in a correctional facility.
This operation was conducted by the Faro District Command of the PSP, through the Portimão precinct.
