A 24-year-old Algerian man was apprehended on the afternoon of April 11 in Porto for theft using the “pickpocket method.”
“The suspect was observed trying to open several vehicles by placing his hand on the door handles, hence he was monitored,” explained the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement released to newsrooms this Monday.
Subsequently, the young man took advantage of a foreign citizen’s distraction, seized a backpack from a supermarket shopping cart, and left the premises. However, he was intercepted as he exited the commercial establishment.
The victim reported the theft of items valued at 45 euros.
The young man was presented to the judicial authorities and is required to report to the authorities of his area of residence three times a week.
