A 19-year-old was arrested on charges of allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Évora, an incident that took place last Sunday, as reported by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Saturday.
In a statement, the PJ revealed that the investigation, led by the Local Criminal Investigation Unit (ULIC) of Évora of the PJ, commenced following a report made by the victim’s mother to the local PSP, which immediately engaged the PJ.
The incident followed an evening outing on August 2nd involving a group of teenagers, including the victim, joined by the suspect.
“In the early hours, the suspect lured the victim to his residence, where he allegedly subjected her to significant non-consensual sexual acts,” the statement added.
Since the crime, the suspect was believed to be at an unknown location, prompting the ULIC to issue a restriction on leaving the national territory.
The young foreign national was located and identified on the morning of Friday, August 8th, at Lisbon Airport as he attempted to leave the country. The operation was conducted by the PJ in close cooperation with the Border Control Unit located there.
The arrest was formalized following the issuance of an out-of-custody arrest warrant (MDFFD) by the DIAP – Évora Section.
The suspect is set to appear before the judicial authorities for an initial interrogation and the application of coercive measures.
