A 23-year-old was arrested on November 8 after handing two packages of drugs to an inmate at the Setúbal Prison.
The arrest, made in the act, occurred during visiting hours with the cooperation of the Setúbal Prison Guard Corps, according to a statement issued Monday by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).
“During the visitor control process, the suspect was observed handing two objects to the inmate, which the latter hid. After the visit ended, the Prison Guard members conducted a search of the inmate and found two packages of narcotics,” detailed the police force in the same statement.
The PJ was called upon due to suspicions about the “illegality of the goods” and, following a “forensic examination,” determined it to be narcotics.
“During the investigations carried out, narcotics were also found in the possession of the detainee, stored in his personal belongings,” it added.
The foreign national, who had no prior police record, will be presented for a first judicial interrogation for the application of coercive measures.
