A 21-year-old man was rescued from the sea on Sunday by crew members of the Sesimbra Lifeboat Station, in coordination with the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), after diving from a height of five meters in a rocky area at Ribeira do Cavalo beach in the municipality of Sesimbra.
The “crew members of the Sesimbra Lifeboat Station and elements of the Sesimbra Volunteer Firefighters” were “immediately activated” after an alert was issued at 12:30 PM, “informing them that a young man on the beach needed assistance.” This information is detailed in a statement published on the National Maritime Authority’s page.
Upon arrival, the Lifeboat Station teams “promptly assisted the young man and carried out the rescue by sea, as it is a beach with difficult access,” they report.
The victim was taken to the port of Sesimbra, where he was met by an ambulance from the firefighters. He was then transported to an undisclosed hospital.
The Local Command of the Setúbal Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
