A 19-year-old with gunshot wounds was left at the emergency entrance of the Hospital Fernando da Fonseca, known as Amadora-Sintra, on Sunday morning, police sources confirmed.
The young man was shot in the abdominal area and brought to the hospital in a car, which subsequently left the scene.
The victim was immediately taken to surgery and is reported to be out of life-threatening danger.
Efforts to trace the vehicle involved have been unsuccessful so far.
The Public Security Police (PSP) are handling the case and have reported the details to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judicial Police (PJ).
This incident followed a series of shootings on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning in Cova da Moura and Estrada Militar, also in the Amadora region.
The PSP reported a man was shot in the chest on Estrada Militar at around 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday and was taken in serious condition to the Hospital Fernando da Fonseca.
Later, at 11:50 p.m., a 23-year-old man arrived at the same hospital with gunshot wounds to his legs and right arm.
During the early hours of Wednesday, at around 2:45 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in Cova da Moura. PSP officers found several shell casings at the scene, and the injured man was transported in serious condition to the hospital.
According to the PSP, “The Bairro da Cova da Moura and other areas in Amadora have experienced some violent episodes among residents,” with “tension, particularly at night.”
A group celebrating Cape Verde’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup in Amadora threw rocks at police officers called to the scene due to noise complaints. The officers fired several rubber bullets to disperse the crowd and detained one individual.
