A two-year-old baby was removed from a car in Felgueiras, in the Porto district, while the parents were in the supermarket.

The information was confirmed by a source from the Territorial Command of the National Republican Guard (GNR) of Porto.

According to the same source, the alert for the situation was given at 12:33 pm, via 112.

At the scene, authorities “found that there was a child inside the vehicle, which was closed, while the parents were shopping.”

The child was rescued from the vehicle and taken to a hospital in Penafiel, showing signs of dehydration, and was considered to have minor injuries.

About ten minutes passed between the call to the GNR and the arrival of the military personnel at the scene.

A civil protection source reported that the car was parked in the parking lot of an industrial unit in Cabeça de Porca.

It is unknown how long the child was inside the vehicle while the parents were in the supermarket. When questioned about the situation, the GNR stated that they do not know if the child was left in the car due to “forgetfulness” or consciously.

The authorities also filed a police report, and the National Commission for the Promotion of Children and Youth Rights and Protection will be notified regarding this situation.
