A 74-year-old man died today following an accident with an agricultural machine while working in the vineyard, the deputy commanding officer of the Viseu Sapper Fire Brigade told Lusa news agency.
“The gentleman, 74 years old, was milling his land, a vineyard, and had already done part of it. Then I don’t know what happened, but his body was wrapped up in the agricultural machine,” said Rui Poceiro.
The accident happened in São João de Lourosa, Viseu, and 17 operatives were on the scene, supported by seven vehicles, including the Viseu Sapper Fire Brigade, the GNR and the National Institute for Medical Emergencies (INEM).
According to the Viseu Dão Lafões Civil Protection Sub-regional Command, the alert went out at 9.39am and, this morning, two other accidents involving agricultural machinery were recorded, resulting in two slightly injured people.
One of them happened in Santar, in the municipality of Nelas, at 9.20 a.m., resulting in a slight injury and, at 10.12 a.m., in Oliveirinha, Oliveira do Conde, in the municipality of Carregal do Sal, also in the Viseu district, an agricultural machine caused another slight injury.
