An exchange of aggression between two homeless individuals sharing the roof of an abandoned house in Belém, Lisbon, ended in the worst possible way. One died, and the other was sentenced to 12 years of effective prison time.

The crime occurred in the early hours of April 30 to May 1, 2023, but only recently was the defendant, who was in pre-trial detention, convicted by the Lisbon Court for the crime of simple homicide, as proposed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the court ruling, for reasons that were not “specifically determined,” the defendant, “in possession of a large cutting and piercing instrument of unidentified nature, inflicted several blows on the victim in body areas that house vital organs, causing his death.”

It should be noted that the killer was also injured during the attack and was hospitalized at São Francisco Xavier Hospital under a false identity.

The victim’s body was only found a week later, on May 8, by a Public Security Police (PSP) patrol that was passing by the location and noticed a foul odor coming from inside the house.

Only after that, on May 10, was the suspect located and arrested.
