A “giant festival of great concerts and performances”, with more space next to the bandstand stage and a program of organic waste collection for composting, is what is expected of Alive, which starts on Thursday and is practically sold out.

Are “more than 110 different artists and, therefore, what we expect is a giant festival of great concerts and great performances, because we also have a comedy stage. The expectation is very high, “said the promoter Alvaro Covões in an interview to Lusa and RTP, on the sidelines of a guided tour of the premises of the Nos Alive, in Passeio Marítimo de Algés.

In what is its 15th edition, taking place between Thursday and Saturday, “165 thousand people” are expected, 55 thousand per day, because “right now there are only tickets for Saturday, but they are almost sold out,” he said.

“We always recommend the absolutely fantastic poster, and people better look at the calendar and get organized, who’s coming, and come early because it’s worth it,” he added.

The festival features Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, Sam Smith, Queens of the Stone Age, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and The Black Keys as some of the headliners.

But the event is not only made of great international names, Álvaro Covões highlighted other artists, such as King Princess, a concert that is “essential not to miss,” or Carolina Deslandes and Barbara Tinoco, “who will perform together for the first time.

In this year’s edition there will be no major changes, with the goal of “trying to keep the main services in the same locations,” so that the festival’s regular audience knows where each space is.

“The most important thing for us, which comes from the policy we followed in 2007, is to have small measures that support sustainability.”

Therefore, the big news this year is the collection of organic garbage for composting, following the program that the Oeiras City Hall is already starting at the domestic level.

“We will be the first major urban event to also have selective collection of organic waste for composting, which is also one of the fundamental steps for the planet’s sustainability,” he pointed out.

This is the first year that the festival is being held within full normality, after a cautious return in 2022, following two years of postponed editions due to the covid-19 pandemic.

“I have mentioned that although this is the 15th edition, it is the 17th poster, unfortunately. I hope that this cycle of being able to perform live and welcome people will never be interrupted, but above all, what is expected are great and fantastic concerts,” he said.

After two difficult years, Álvaro Covões confesses that “even today it is a thrill to see so many people working and being proud to contribute to this culture industry.

“It was worth all the challenges that were thrown to companies and professionals of culture, to resist and continue in this sector, so that it would be possible in Portugal to continue to present the best events in the world,” he considered.

During the visit to the enclosure, it was possible to see the teams working in the assembly of the spaces, with the stages already installed, as well as the restaurant areas, and all the support structures being finalized, such as the bathrooms, distributed in an area where “you can even play ball”, joked the responsible, in a reference to the amplitude of the space.

There are seven stages in all, including the bandstand, which this year is located in a “much larger area, with more terraces,” facing the river.

On this stage will pass names like iolanda – who today made a brief performance -, y.azz, Homem em Catarse, Peculiar, Sónia Trópicos, Juana na Rap, Rita Onofre and Trafulha, among others.

This year there is also a pregnant zone again: “We were the first festival to have pregnant zones in the world. On Friday we already have 147 pregnant women registered”, she pointed out.

The Alive festival is mainly sponsored by the NOS operator. All the information about the event and the poster are available at www.nosalive.com.
