A 34-year-old man was arrested for attempted rape in the municipality of Maia, Porto district, as revealed by the National Republican Guard (GNR) in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to the authorities, the man, arrested on August 9, is suspected of following a 42-year-old woman, taking advantage of the moment when she was alone to approach, assault, and attempt to rape her.
During the investigation, the Guard seized the suspect’s car, as well as the clothes allegedly used in the crime.
The detainee has already appeared in court for his first judicial interrogation and was released with the precautionary measure of reporting to the police station nearest to his residence three times a week.
The investigation has since been handed over to the Judicial Police (PJ).
