The airline Azores Airlines will reinforce the operation between the Azores and the mainland between the end of August and the beginning of September, making 670 extra seats available due to increased demand, it was announced today.

“Azores Airlines is going ahead with the reinforcement of its operation to make around 670 extra seats available, taking into account the behavior of demand,” the carrier said in a statement.

The company stresses that the increase in the number of seats is due to the “peak demand that connections to the Azores archipelago are experiencing”, in particular the connection between the archipelago and the Portuguese mainland.

The increase in seats will cover August 31, September 1 and 3, with the “additional capacity already available in the company’s online system”.

“The increase in capacity now available is the best solution found given the impossibility of operating extraordinary flights due to the limited airport slots available in Lisbon,” says the company.

Azores Airlines said that the “increase in capacity was conciliated with the reinforcement of SATA Air Açores’ inter-island operation that has been implemented in recent weeks”.

The SATA group includes Azores Airlines, which operates to and from the Azores, and SATA Air Açores, responsible for inter-island connections.

On August 8, Azores Airlines had already announced the reinforcement of its domestic and international air operations with Porto, with three new routes between that city and North America and an increase in weekly frequencies between the Azores.

The airline also announced on Wednesday that it will operate twice-weekly flights between the cities of Ponta Delgada and Faro from June 2, 2024.
