Bathing at Matosinhos beach, in the district of Porto, has been advised against since Tuesday due to microbiological values above the reference parameters in the water, according to information from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).

On its official website, the APA states that there is “microbiological contamination” in the bathing water of Matosinhos, without mentioning which beach, which is why bathing has been advised against since Tuesday.

Contacted by Lusa, the commander of the Douro Captaincy, Rui Lampreia, revealed that bathing is not recommended at Matosinhos beach.

Throughout the bathing season, which began on May 1st in Cascais and Madeira, the APA carries out analyses to assess whether the waters are suitable for bathing in order to guarantee greater safety for users.

Lusa also contacted the Matosinhos City Council and is awaiting a response.
