Through a statement on the official website, Benfica reacted to the controversial game of the B team (defeat by 1-2) in Reboleira, against Estrela da Amadora, in the 20th round of League 2.

The eagles demand immediate measures from the Refereeing Council and the Portuguese Football Federation and ask for “respect”.

Here is the position of the incarnates:

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica expresses deep concern and revolt over the refereeing that occurred this afternoon with our B team.

A denied penalty, a non-existent penalty scored against us and a goal disallowed in the last minute pushed Benfica to an undeserved defeat, the result of yet another totally biased and incompetent refereeing that seriously injured the Club.

Concrete measures are demanded from the Refereeing Council and the Portuguese Football Federation.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica will not allow its history and greatness to be disrespected and will act accordingly in the face of the continued inaction of those whose duty it is to safeguard sports truth in Portugal.”
