Captaincy of Funchal extends warnings of sea turbulence and strong winds

The captaincy of the Port of Funchal today extended the warnings of rough seas and strong winds for Madeira’s coastline until 06:00 on Friday.

The decision is based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) regarding the general state of the weather (wind and sea) for the coastline.

The captaincy states in the warning that the wind will be from the north “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong between late afternoon and mid-night”.

On the north coast, the waves could reach 4.5 meters and in the south they will be around one meter.

Due to this weather situation, the captaincy recommends that the maritime community and the population in general take the necessary precautions “both when preparing to go to sea and when they are at sea or in coastal areas”.

Reinforcing mooring and close monitoring of moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walks by the sea and exposed areas and not practicing recreational fishing are some of the recommendations.
