Rail traffic on the Cascais Line will be closed on the Oeiras-Cascais section on Sunday, between 05:30 and 08:40, following modernization work, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced today.
In the press release, IP also stressed that “alternative road transport will not be provided during this period”.
“We would like to thank you for your understanding of any inconvenience that the occasional interdiction of rail traffic may cause, as this is necessary to allow work to continue on improving the quality, efficiency and safety of the public rail transport service on the Cascais Line,” he explained.
Rail traffic on the Cascais Line has been restricted in recent weeks, following a fire on March 19 at the Cais do Sodré electrical substation, caused by a wiring maneuver as part of work on the Lisbon Metro.
Since then, train traffic has been restricted, with a reduced supply and stops at all stations, a source from CP – Comboios de Portugal confirmed to Lusa.
The same source said at the beginning of April that six trains run during rush hour and three an hour outside this period.
The causes of the fire, according to the same source, “are not related to the modernization works on the Cascais Line, which are underway, nor do they affect the normal course of these works, which are taking place at this stage between the municipalities of Oeiras and Cascais”.
