The Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of the Azores announced in a statement that a 42-year-old man was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Povoação Station, Ponta Delgada Police Division, under a detention warrant for the alleged crime of domestic violence.
“Following a complaint made by the victim, the police unit of the Povoação Station, through the precise application of police resources, promptly took action upon learning of the crime, conducting necessary police investigations in coordination with the judicial authority,” the security force disclosed.
The defendant faced an initial judicial interrogation and is now subject to coercive measures, including the obligation to stay away from the victim’s residence and a prohibition on approaching her. He is also under supervision with the use of electronic monitoring equipment, according to the PSP.
