The newly approved regulation imposes additional customs duties on other agricultural products and certain fertilizers originating from Russia and Belarus that were not previously subject to supplementary tariffs.
These new duties will apply to goods that accounted for about 15% of all agricultural imports from Russia in 2023.
With respect to fertilizers, the new customs duties will target specific nitrogen-based products.
From July 1, the EU customs duties will apply to all agricultural products originating from Russia, as other imported agricultural products were already subject to tariffs.
The aim is to reduce the EU’s dependence on these imports and decrease Russia’s export revenues, thereby limiting its ability to finance its war of aggression against Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.
