The protocol for renewing collaboration between the Government, Movijovem, and INATEL, which will allow for the provision of 673 beds from Youth Hostels and 36 beds from the INATEL network, will be signed on Wednesday.

According to Movijovem, the program will be available in units located in Aveiro, Abrantes, Almada, Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Guimarães, Lisbon Center, Lisbon Parque das Nações, Oeiras, Portimão, Portalegre, Porto, Santa Cruz, Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima, Vila do Conde, and Vila Nova de Cerveira.

Integrated into the National Plan for Higher Education Accommodation, this program aims to mitigate the scarcity of housing options for students in various regions of the country.

The issue of accommodation is one of the biggest problems for displaced university students, with average rents of 386 euros in Porto and 480 euros in Lisbon, according to student representatives.

In the monthly expenses of young people, accommodation represents the heaviest burden, according to the results of the Survey on Socioeconomic and Academic Conditions of Higher Education Students, promoted and financed by the Directorate-General for Higher Education.
