Both diesel and gasoline will get cheaper as early as Monday.
Fuel prices will be cheaper as early as Monday, so if you need to fill up, it is best to wait. The forecasts point to a decrease of five cents in the case of simple diesel and six cents in the case of simple 95 gasoline, said source of the sector to the Portugal Pulse.
These variations occur at a time when the average price of simple diesel is 1.448 € / liter, while the simple gasoline 95 is costing an average of 1.657 € / liter.
The average sale price of plain 95 gasoline in Portugal in the first quarter of this year was 6.0 cents per liter higher than the EU27 average, while in the plain diesel was 9.0 cents lower, according to data from the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) released Friday.
According to the EU-27 (European Union of 27) fuel price bulletin, released today by ERSE, in plain 95 gasoline, “in the first quarter of 2023, Portugal showed an average selling price and an average price before tax higher than the average values in the EU-27, around 6.0 cent/l [cents per liter] and 4.9 cent/l, respectively.
“The tax burden on the average sale price of plain 95 gasoline in Portugal was around 49.4%, slightly lower than the EU27 average (50.3%) and higher than Spain’s (46.3%),” he adds.
According to the bulletin, “disregarding the effect of the tax burden, Portugal’s average price of this fuel was around 2.7 cent/l lower than the average price in Spain.
ERSE’s bulletin also points out that, considering the prices of plain 95 gasoline without taxes, “Portugal is in seventh position among the countries that sell this fuel most expensive in the EU-27, with the price practiced corresponding to a difference of 26.3 cent/l and 9.5 cent/l compared to the country with the lowest prices and the country with the highest prices, respectively.
Among eight countries analyzed in greater detail – Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands – “Spain showed the lowest average sale price, about 4.8 cent/l lower than the average price in Portugal,” notes ERSE.
