Contacted by Lusa, a source from the Navy explained that the alert was given by a local man who saw a car falling into the sea with two people inside, and that the rescue resources and elements from the Life-Saving Station and the local Maritime Police Command of Póvoa de Varzim were activated.
At the scene, the authorities found that the two people were inside the car.

The deaths were declared at the scene by the health delegate, and the bodies were later transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Porto.
The Navy told Lusa that the Maritime Police’s psychology office had been activated and was providing support to the young man’s relatives.
So far, the authorities do not know the identity of the 60-year-old man.
Also at the scene were 10 operatives from the Póvoa de Varzim Volunteer Fire Brigade, supported by four vehicles.
