The leader of the neo-Nazi movement 1143, Mário Machado, was assaulted on Wednesday at Alcoentre prison, announced Frederico Morais, president of the National Syndicate of Prison Guards.
“This aggression, from the information I have, was carried out by individuals of Roma ethnicity, inmates who attacked Mário Machado when he went to his cell to place his belongings,” revealed Frederico Morais.
The official noted that Mário Machado was “lucky” as there were “enough guards” to assist him.
“They followed orders, stopped, and managed to remove the inmate, who is now in another wing. It is important to say that prison guards are increasingly few. This is an institution currently on strike over overtime work due to the exploitation faced by the guards, and he was fortunate. We could be discussing a much more serious case due to the lack of prison guards,” explained the president of the National Syndicate of Prison Guards.
