“It involves two families, one of which found a solution on their own, and the other was accommodated by the landlord in another dwelling,” reported a source from the Porto city council.
The alert was given at 4:24 PM for a fire at the República dos Cachorros Restaurant, in Praça dos Poveiros, which was fought by the Fire Brigade Regiment and was reported to be in the mop-up phase around 7:00 PM.
The situation forced the closure of traffic on several streets in the city center, namely Rua do Campinho, Rua D. João IV with Rua de Santo Ildefonso, and Rua da Alegria with Rua Formosa, according to the city council’s Facebook page, which also informs that the situation is being monitored by the Municipal Police and the PSP.
The fire originated in the restaurant’s exhaust duct, with no casualties reported, adds the city council’s statement.
According to the Civil Protection page, at 7:10 PM, 28 operatives and eight vehicles remained at the scene.
