Portugal will compete with six cyclists at the Track Europeans in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, with the aim of staying within the qualifying places for the Paris2024 Olympic Games.
As we enter the final months of Olympic qualification, Portugal is in a qualifying position in the men’s madison and the men’s and women’s omnium.
According to the Portuguese Cycling Federation (FPC), the Portuguese team will focus on these disciplines, with Iuri Leitão and Rui Oliveira doubling up in the madison, which has its final scheduled for Thursday.
On Friday, Tokyo 2020 Olympian Maria Martins will compete in the omnium, with qualifying at 12:00 and the four scoring events between 13:20 and 19:15.
The men’s omnium, in which Iuri Leitão is world champion, will feature Rui Oliveira on Saturday, with qualifying at 14:40 and the remaining races between 16:00 and 19:55.
In the non-Olympic events, Diogo Narciso will make his Portuguese debut with the elimination race on Wednesday, with Maria Martins (scratch) and Rodrigo Caxias (1km time trial) competing on Thursday.
On Friday, the individual pursuit will be run, with Rodrigo Caxias, and the men’s scratch, with Iúri Leitão.
At the weekend, Daniela Campos competes in the points race on Saturday, the same day that Maria Martins races the elimination, with Diogo Narciso closing the Portuguese participation on Sunday in the points race.
