Portugal meet opponents for Euro2025 women’s play-offs

The Portuguese women’s national soccer team will today meet their opponents in the first round of the Euro2025 play-offs, from a group made up of Turkey, Croatia, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovakia and Azerbaijan.

Portugal, who won Group B3 of the Nations League without defeat, go into the draw as the team with the best ranking (21st) and as seeded alongside Scotland, Wales, Serbia, Ukraine and Northern Ireland.

The first round of the play-offs is scheduled for October 23 and 29, in a two-legged tie.

If they qualify, the ‘Quinas’ will play in a second play-off (November 22 and December 3), which will also be drawn today and which will include the winners of the matches between the teams from Nations League A (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Poland, Republic of Ireland and Sweden) and those from League C (Albania, Belarus, Georgia, Greece, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Romania and Slovenia).

In addition to hosts Switzerland, the teams of Germany, Spain, Iceland, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands and defending champions England are guaranteed a place in the 14th edition of the European Championship, to be held between July 2 and 27 next year in eight Swiss cities.

Portugal has competed in two European Championships, in 2017 in the Netherlands and 2022 in England, both of which ended in the group stage.
