Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 44th minute, assisted by Bruno Fernandes, who scored the second in the 77th minute, heading in a cross from substitute Rúben Neves, and the third in the 90+3 minute.

Roberto Martinez’s men strengthened their lead at the top of the group with nine points, compared with seven for Slovakia (2-1 in Iceland), four for Luxembourg and three each for the Bosnians and Icelanders.

Portugal beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 on their way back to the Estádio da Luz after an opening 45 minutes in which the Selecção da Quinas dominated possession but were slow to create danger.

Bosnia were even the first to threaten, in a rare attacking move where Diogo Costa was alert to stop a centre-forward’s shot. Portugal then put the ball in the net when Cristiano Ronaldo headed in João Cancelo’s cross, but the captain was in an irregular position. Joao Félix tested the visiting keeper on the stroke of half-time and set the tone for the rest of the match. Bernardo Silva scored in the 45th minute with a fine finish after an excellent pass from Bruno Fernandes.
