
The year-on-year change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 2.3% in May, marking an increase of 0.2 percentage points (p.p.) compared to the previous month, as reported by INE on Thursday.
The core inflation indicator (total index excluding unprocessed food and energy products) registered a change of 2.2% (2.1% in April).
The variation in the index for energy products increased to 0.1% (-0.1% in the previous month), and the index related to unprocessed food products rose to 4.0% (3.2% in April).
The monthly change in the CPI decreased to 0.3% (0.7% in the previous month and 0.2% in May 2024). The average change over the last twelve months was 2.3% (2.4% in the previous month).
The Portuguese Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showed a year-on-year change of 1.7%, 2.1% in the previous month, and 0.2 p.p. lower than the value estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area (in April, this difference was 0.1 p.p.).
Excluding unprocessed food and energy products, the HICP in Portugal reached a year-on-year change of 1.6% in May (2.2% in April), a rate lower than that for the Euro area (estimated at 2.4%).
The HICP recorded a monthly change of 0.6% (1.3% in the previous month and 1.0% in May 2024) and an average change over the last twelve months of 2.4% (2.6% in the previous month).
