The PSP, GNR and the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) are launching a road safety campaign today on the use of seat belts and baby car seats, as part of the 2024 National Enforcement Plan (PNF).
According to a joint press release from these organizations, the campaign, entitled “Belt me alive” and which ends on April 11, aims to “alert drivers and passengers to the importance of always using safety devices such as seat belts and child seats correctly”.
The “Cinto-me Vivo” campaign will include awareness-raising actions by ANSR in mainland Portugal and by the regional administrations of the Azores and Madeira, as well as enforcement operations by the PSP and GNR with a special focus on roads and accesses with a high traffic flow, which are intended to “contribute to reducing the risk of accidents and to drivers adopting safer behaviors with regard to the correct use of safety devices”.
The awareness actions will take place at the same time as the enforcement operations in the following locations: Friday, at 08:00 in Praça do Vitória FC, on April 8, at 16:00 in the Santarém toll plaza on the A1, on April 9, at 09:00 at the D. Dinis traffic circle, in Leiria, on April 10, at 07:00 on the IC2 – Km 244.5, in Albergaria-a-Velha, Aveiro. The PSP, GNR and ANSR call on drivers to always use an approved car seat that is properly installed and adapted to the child’s height and weight, as well as recommending the use of seat belts in all parts of the vehicle and on all journeys, even short ones and, in the case of motorcycles, a helmet of an approved model, properly adjusted and fastened.
Today’s action is the fourth of the 12 awareness-raising and enforcement campaigns planned for this year under the 2024 NFP and, by the end of the year, eight more campaigns will be carried out, one per month, with awareness-raising and enforcement actions.
The campaigns included in the national enforcement plans have been carried out annually by the PSP, ANSR and GNR since 2020, with themes defined on the basis of the European recommendations established for each year.
The 2023 PNF has prioritized the following topics: speed, alcohol, safety accessories and cell phones.
