The emotions of cycling will return to the municipality of Sertã on February 26, with the second race of the Portugal Cup Esperanças 2023. The Alameda da Carvalha, in Sertã, will be the stage for the start at 11am and the finish at 1:30pm (forecast), of this cycling race that will pass through several parishes and unions of parishes in the county. With a total distance of 93,5km, the cyclists will pass through Sertã, Ermida, Figueiredo, Troviscal, Pedrogão Pequeno, Carvalhal, Castelo, Cernache do Bonjardim and Cabeçudo, finishing the course in Sertã.
Over the years, the municipality of Sertã has hosted several starts and finishes of the “queen race” of Portuguese cycling, the Tour of Portugal, and other races such as the Tour of Portugal of the Future, the Beira Interior MTB Marathon Trophy and the National Road 2 Grand Prix. For Carlos Miranda, Mayor of Sertã, “it is an honor for the Municipality of Sertã to be associated with such an important race as the Portuguese Cup of Hope, because we understand that in addition to the promotion of the sporting aspect, tourism will clearly benefit.”
Promoted by the Associação de Ciclismo da Beira Interior, with the support of the Municipality of Sertã, the race is part of the national calendar in class 1.13, and is reserved for riders in the Under-23 men’s category and Junior men’s riders from Zone B teams. As far as training categories are concerned, this race is integrated in the strategy of the Portuguese Cycling Federation for the emergence of new values in cycling, allowing each year to highlight the best riders in each category.
